August
August it is
A month of loss and grief
Where time was punishing
Now simply still
I go back living it yet again
In slow motion
Of an unforgiving call
Drive into darkness
Smell of absence
Staring into melancholy
Sleuthing meaning of life
Hubris in me destroyed
Grief, walked in
With loud announcement
Through wide open front door
Sat like it owned the place
To repay the old debts
With the last drop of will
Uncouth at times
Gentle at times
It assured it will stay
People came and went
Grief, once it walked in
Will never leave
Grief simply changed the address
Tightness in chest to flutter in gut
Ocean of tears to curve of a smile
Holding on snugly to letting go
Grief, once it walked in
Will never leave
Now an entire house
With wide open windows
Breeze flows in freely
Light enters abundantly
Windows of love and memories
Grief, once it walked in
Will never leave
Its yours forever
